The Freelance Side

So the only new project I got this past week was for Deli Fresh Threads. He told me he wanted to do a Holiday sweater concept and after getting on a quick Google Hangout we figured out how to market it, where to get it printed and then was able to bring it to life. Projects like this are fun. I really enjoy doing merch design and when it’s not a skull or something “tough” it’s like a playground and totally something I can let loose on. I started the project by gathering some reference images, because it’s a subject I haven’t done much studying on ;). I first looked up the satirical sweatshirts metal bands put out a year or two ago. I then looked up patterns and generic references.

If you dig this and want one for yourself they will be launching a pre order by the end of the week. So follow them on twitter to keep up to date.

On another note I’ve begun the plans on how to proceed with cold calling (or emailing) local businesses that could use help on the branding or on their web front. I listened to a rerun of Design Matters with James Victore where he explained that he still cold calls to this day. I don’t know if it was his honesty or how straightforward he was, but it gave me the nudge I needed to hunt down work and try and make a more consistent income flow.

Personal Work

Not much to show this week. Still working on those 2 typefaces and doing a lot of running around for the United Design Guild, especially with our Rebrand Party less than a week away now.

O also I’ve been playing way to much Stardew Valley on my Switch. You should know… I’m a pretty good virtual farmer and even raised a small dino in my chicken coop!
