Tuesday July 18th, 2017 I was let go from my job. I had worked there as a UI/UX designer for almost four years. It wasn’t a bad job, but I had considered leaving for quite a while. I wanted to pursue a solo career, but a consistent pay check and insurance kept me driving in every morning for my 9–5.

While walking out that day, around 10:30am, I was smiling. A weight was removed and I knew I could now do what I had talked about for months, if not years. I was comfortable with the idea of unemployment and new beginnings, greatly due to the safety net I was able to create. For years I had been saving so I could financially float for almost a year. I also got a free box for my stuff, I figure I‘m already ahead.

When I got home I started working on Noble Folk Design full time.

We are now one week from the day I received a free box from my past employer and here is what I have done since walking out with it:

  1. Re-watched Stranger Things
  2. Re-watched True Detective Season 1
  3. Began Season 2 of True Detective, but got bored
  4. Watched Ozark on Netflix
  5. Watched some other assorted movies
  6. Played some Zelda: Breathe of the Wild
  7. Hiked around a dozen miles of the Appalachian Trail 1 2
  8. Created a new website, which can be found here www.NobleFolkDesign.com
  9. Started slowly using my NF Instagram. www.instagram.com/noblefolkdesign/
  10. Started Reaching out to friends and family letting them know the current situation
  11. Signed up for Upwork, AngelList, and Harvest
  12. Had a meeting for the ADCNJ, a design group I am the president of and brought on a new board member.

That’s pretty much it. I did get a small job from a friend who owns a clothing brand. He just needed some quick help putting a banner together with his established branding. Check him out at www.DeliFreshThreads.com and if you are in the Orlando area take a selfie with this biggie bread!

I have also had multiple people tell me they have small freelance gigs they can pass off and other personal projects they need help with. So hopefully next week I will have some more work to share and progress on what I am doing to try and move my career to full time freelance.

There is a lot going on inside my head. Anxiety, excitement, confusion and so much more. I hope that by keeping record of this process it will not only help me look back and remember where I came from, but maybe help those going through the same stuff. Feel free to email me, it can be found on my website, or even directly hit me up on IG.
