I spent this past weekend helping record video, take photos, and contribute to the social media of my church while we were at the annual youth retreat in upstate New York. Surrounded by more than a dozen young adults giving their weekends to help introduce the Gospel and possibly break through the misconceptions these teenagers may have against the church. Even though the weekend was for them, I left with tons of ideas floating around in my head.

One of these ideas was how vital it is to know what is most important in your life. This little fact will, and should, steer the direction your life takes. If you were to ask me what is most important I would, with confidence, say my God and that is truly what I want to be most important. But as I look at how I spend my time it’s clear that isn’t the truth. My career, if looking at what holds the majority of my attention and thoughts, would be the most important subject in my life.

I’m not sure what that means. How do you balance your life with the elements that should be most important with the part’s of your life that demand the most attention? I guess I just need to make it a priority to pause life and spend time doing the things that I allow so easily to slip through the cracks. Sadly that’s easier said than done. Hopefully just thinking about this and writing it out will help me keep track of where my attention is going.

This post also marks 6 months trying to live the freelance “dream”. It’s had it’s ups and downs, but 2018 looks like it could be a great year for professional and personal growth.
